To produce the next generation of computer and information scientists and engineers, who apply their use-inspired education and fundamental research contributions to solve real-world problems and impact society.
The School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) at Arizona State University (ASU) will support the evolution of computing and informatics as discrete disciplines. The school will respond to needs for partnership and collaboration between computer and information sciences and a broad range of disciplinary areas at ASU. This integration of computer and information sciences with other academic disciplines such as geography, anthropology, public health, urban planning and biology will provide an academic structure to foster new knowledge.
The school is home to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI). The CSE department offers undergraduate degrees in computer science and computer systems engineering and an M.S., M.C.S. and Ph.D. in computer science. The BMI department offers both an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. in the fall of 2008. Current CSE graduate students are eligible to work on a concentration in biomedical informatics. The school also offers an interdisciplinary certificate.
