Policies
Late Add Policy
First week of classes
Students already registered for the term can add and drop without special permissions if there are seats available in the class AND if the student has the appropriate prerequisites. If the class is full, the student cannot register. It is the policy of the School that NO section-full overrides will be granted.
- If the student does not have the proper prerequisites, they can register for the course only if the instructor signs a prerequisite override authorization form AND there are seats available.
(For summer sessions, this period is marked in the bulletin and is usually the first two days of the term)
Second week of classes (Late Registration)
During this week, the student can register if they do the following:
- Students must fill out the enrollment request form and obtain the faculty’s signature. The faculty member must write a note on the back of the form confirming student attendance and listing any missed work the student is required to complete.
- Bring the form to the SCI Advising Center (BYENG 208) signed and dated by the instructor. The SCI Advising Center Assistant Director will make sure that the student has the proper prerequisites AND that there are open seats in the class before signing the form. The student must then obtain a signature from the Fulton School of Engineering’s Academic and Student Affairs office (BYENG 605) and register in person at the Registrar’s office.
- If the class is full, the student cannot register. It is the policy of the School that NO section-full overrides will be granted.
- If the student does not have the proper prerequisites, they can register for the course only if the instructor signs a prerequisite override authorization form AND there are seats available.
- During this week, the student no longer has an option to drop a course. Students may instead withdraw from a course.
(For summer sessions, this period would include the third day of the term for the five week and the eight week session.)
Third week of classes (Late Registration)
During this week, the student can register if they do the following:
- Students must fill out the enrollment request form and obtain the faculty’s signature. The faculty member must write a note on the back of the form confirming student attendance and listing any missed work the student is required to complete.
- The student will also be required to provide a written rationale and supporting documentation for registering late. Possible reasons include:
- Sudden injury or unexpected illness of student.
- Certain travel situations beyond the students’ control.
- Circumstances created by the university. - The SCI Advising Center Assistant Director will make sure that the student has the proper prerequisites AND that there are open seats in the class before signing the form. The student must then obtain a signature from the Fulton School of Engineering’s Academic and Student Affairs office (BYENG 605) and register in person at the Registrar’s office.
- If the class is full, the student cannot register. It is the policy of the School that NO section-full overrides will be granted.

Withdrawal Policy
Students have 10 weeks to withdraw from a course without penalty (see the Bulletin for dates for the summer term). This university policy allows students time to work with the instructor and to seek tutoring and guidance in order to be successful in the course.
Students can withdraw from courses through the Registrar’s office or on My ASU without the approval of the instructor or an advisor during the first 10 weeks of the class. Please make sure that withdrawing from a course or courses does not affect progress in your program, your visa, scholarship or financial aid status.
After the 10 week period, the School will not grant any late withdrawals. No exceptions will be made to this policy. Students have the option of a complete withdrawal, meaning, withdrawing from all courses for the term.
Undergraduate students must contact one of the following Registrar staff members prior to processing a complete withdrawal for fall and spring semesters:
Jennie Fleege
Office: Discovery Hall 172L
Phone: 480-965-9219
Email: studentretention@asu.edu
Eric Parsons

Office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Walk-ins are available, as well as appointment times. The offices are located on the 1st floor (basement) of Discovery Hall. From main entrance (glass doors) take the staircase down and turn right.
My ASU will remain available for processing a complete withdrawal for all students prior to the first day of each semester. However, after the first day of the semester, complete withdrawal via My ASU will be available only to graduate students. Summer and winter sessions are not affected. Published withdrawal deadlines will remain in effect for all terms.
