Admission into the Program

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering will advance students to upper division Computer Science and Engineering classes based on application information provided by the student and on official records.

Advancement is granted to those applicants demonstrating the highest promise for professional success in Computer Science and Engineering. The determining factors include the cumulative GPA (Transfer + ASU GPA combined), as well as the overall GPA in Computer Science and Engineering skill-set courses. Completion of the specified courses does not guarantee admission to professional status.

Students must meet the minimum GPA of a 2.75 in their skill-set courses and a 2.5 cumulative to be eligible to take upper division Computer Science and Engineering classes. In addition, international students must satisfy the minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score requirement of 550.

NEXT STEPS

Students will be notified by e-mail (at the ASU e-mail address submitted on their application) whether they have been admitted or denied for advancement to upper division courses.

Students who are still in the process of completing skill-set courses but have met the GPA requirements will be conditionally admitted and will be able to enroll in upper division courses for the following term. At the end of the semester admitted students should make an appointment with an advisor to complete their Declaration of Graduation (DOG). However, if they do not successfully complete the skill-set courses for which they are enrolled, they will be withdrawn from all upper-division CSE and Engineering courses for which they have registered.

If you are planning on pursuing concurrent degrees you will need to submit a Petition for Adjustment of Curriculum Requirements after being approved for advancement. Please see an advisor for assistance with this process.
